Course Overview:

The importance of sales presentation should never be underestimated.

However Sales Executives need to have an full  understanding of finance and how their role and performance impacts on the company’s bottom line.  They need to be able to clarify what they are presenting and actually understand it’s meaning fully.

The Need to Plan:

  • Laying out a simple presentation
  • what is required and how to make it simple and understandable
  • How corporate planning links to investment strategies; companies’ processes for making investment and capital expenditure decisions.

Direct and Indirect Costs:

  • Fixed and variable costs; how costs are determined; predicting profit; how the cost structure can affect planning and decision making.

Revenue and Capital Expenditure:

  • Budgetary considerations; phasing of capital spend; implications for budget holders.

Approval of Budget and Allocation:

  • Departmental objectives; budget acceptance; cascade objectives; devolved budgets.

Financial Position of a Company:

  • The accounting equation.
  • How successful is the Business?
  • The balance sheet – fixed assets, current assets, current liabilities, net current assets and how to interpret the information; profit & loss; what share price says about the business.

Analysing Company Statements

  • The financial status – is it able to meet liabilities?
  • How well is the business being run?
  • The stock market – are the shares a good investment?
  • the use of ratios to analyse the company’s activities; working capital
  • Is it able to meet its obligations and expand?
  • Gearing – is the level of borrowing satisfactory?;
  • Liquidity - could the company be in financial difficulty?

Using Ratios to Support Investment Decisions

  • Return on capital employed (ROCE); payback; depreciation; assets and liabilities;
  • Investment decisions and return on investment (ROI); cost of capital; net present value of assets.

The training process is based on a carefully planned mix of succinct tutor input - with practical illustration of tools and concepts, group work on case studies (all video based - and lively), feedback, and selective work on individual issues in pairs. Team involvement and working enable a strategy to be created from start to finish. The Training is based on the 4 mat systems to enable complete learning. There will also be some opportunity for role play. You will receive an electronic toolkit within the material for subsequent everyday use.
